Dalian COVID19 Outbreaks Intensified Human-Right Crises in China

On December 27, #Dalian Municipal Authority acknowledged outbreaks within its region. Ten communities, including Jinpu District, were labeled as moderate-risk. Neighborhoods with confirmed cases were under extensive surveillance. The aggressive quarantine approach triggered a wild spread shortage of essential living supplies. However, the authoritarian Communist regime prohibits any resident from leaving their apartments.

Recordings of real-life confinement recently emerged online. Residents collectively pleaded for help: “We need supplies and food.” The intensity of starvation in the area remains unclear amidst intense government #censorship.

About a year ago, COVID19 emerged in Wuhan and eventually led to a 76 days lockdown since January 23,2020. Eleven million residents spent 76 days in “house arrests.” The regime failed to supply residents with much needed daily supplies on time. Footages online show dead bodies being tossed out of apartment buildings as all doors were welded shut. Rages further spread across the city as the city finally delivered condemned produce and meat with garbage trucks. Voices exposing the hypocrisy and inaction of the CCP tore through the Great Fire Wall. Yet, the #CCP spent no time to modify their outbreak response and suppressed any criticism. Citizen reporter Zhang Zhan recently received a four-year prison sentence for her defiance.

The political futures of local communist bureaucrats are directly tied to the region’s infection control performance. Such a trickle-down effect breeds hyper-vigilance and over-responses. In Wuhan, local authorities amassed millions of people to get tested at the same time. People spent hours waiting in line, exposing themselves to both potential #infections as well as the freezing temperature.

Fundamentally, the treatment of residents under quarantine demonstrated the level of care from the #Communist Regime. Dominance and control took precedence over the wellbeing of regular Chinese nationals.
